Following our involvement in a successful bid to the Higher Education Funding Council for centres for excellence in teaching and learning, we were asked by Kingston University to provide single point consultancy services to complete the development for their C-Scaipe Project (Centre for Sustainable Communities Achieved through Integrated Professional Education).
The work consists of reclaiming the unused space in an internal courtyard of the 1950’s Penrhyn Road main building to provide interactive teaching and learning facilities and an experimental teaching and debating chamber. The project included the relocation of the school and staff offices into the building.
Every effort has been made to ensure the sustainability of the construction with natural lighting and ventilation maximised and the heating of the space assessed to give the lowest practicable carbon impact.
For the University of Westminster at their Marylebone Road Campus projects include a new 300-seat lecture theatre and teaching complex, each built over existing structures, administration and reception areas and social space.
The Campus accommodates 8,000 residents and the works had to be undertaken while the buildings were occupied. The work included upgrading large parts of the external glazing.
Projects in following programmes of work for Westminster University have consisted of: entrance canopy and reception to the Marylebone campus, provision of additional accommodation on the external courtyard podium, and a programme for façade and window replacement. We have also replanned the library on the New Cavendish Street campus for the university to provide additional reading and bookrack facilities.
