Masterplanning and Regeneration

Masterplanning studies have been completed to re-site Crown Woods School in South-east London for the London Borough of Greenwich. This is a 2,400-place secondary school and options appraisals examined both the potential re-use of the existing buildings and their replacement. The studies concluded that the most sustainable solution was to rebuild and the practice has prepared outline planning application drawings.

The Avery Hill Campus of the University of Greenwich is comprised of a dense layout of 3- and 4-storey residential buildings of recent construction and 3 pre-War buildings of greater height. The site lacks any real focus or sense of place and a masterplanning exercise seeks to introduce a Campus or Collegiate feel. This is achieved through the removal of one or two key buildings and placement of a series of new buildings and landscape grouped around 2 courtyard spaces.

The accommodation provides around 10,000m2 of built space, the first phase providing for general teaching and academic use, sports teaching facilities with large sports hall and changing facilities, and a 250-seat Lecture Theatre.
